Word to the wise: never, ever, ever leave your Macbook on the floor. Yes, my pretty little black Macbook got stepped on yesterday by my stupid self because it was on the floor, in the shadows, and I thought I’d stepped over it, only to realize that I’d gotten about 1/5 of the right side of the screen.
Now granted, it could be worse. I could have snapped the optical drive, keyboard, case, etc. So all things considered, it’s not that bad. The bad part will be the replacement. $200 for the new screen by itself, then some lovely 24 pages of detailed instructions on how to fix it. Essentially, because the LCD connector is under all the peripherals on the board, everything has to be taken apart to get to it. Yes, everything. Pain in the ass, here I come
Of course the first thing I did was looked into AppleCare to see if they would cover something like this. And of course they won’t. It’s only for a manufacturer error. Like if the hard drive randomly dies, the CPU randomly blows, etc. It doesn’t cover products broken from “abuse or neglect”. I figured maybe I’d buy apple care, wait a week, then send it in. No dice. Apple care is $250 anyways. The new screen, with overnight shipping, will only be $200.
I’ll take some pics later to show you all how damaged it was and may document the surgery that will need to be done. We shall see. Till then, i’m back on windows
Speaking of Apple, the All Things Digital Confrence happened with Stevie and Billy boy taking the stage. It was quite interesting, good stuff. Check it out Here.
And a DLO TransDock Micro, in peices, was just put on my desk to repair. It’s essentially a road trip. Gotta do some sodering, someone kicked this thing’s ass. Gotta go.
